Alex Greenfield

Founder and Editor. Home canner. Composter for over 10 years.

I can and dry food at home, and I have composted for over 10 years, so the scraps from preserving go back into the garden instead of the trash. Putting food by is slow, practical work, and the right tool makes a real difference to how much of a harvest you actually keep.

Let’s Homestead It is about the homestead kitchen: the tools that turn a harvest, a bulk buy or a hunting season into food you can store and use for months. Pressure canners, dehydrators, vacuum sealers, grain mills, meat grinders. These are expensive, they get heavy use a few weeks a year, and a bad one can ruin a whole batch. I want to help you pick one that still works years from now.

This site is curated research, not a personal product blog. I do not own every product I write about, and I never pretend to. Recommendations come from long-term owner feedback, homesteading communities, video reviews and manufacturer documentation, read with the eye of someone who preserves food in their own kitchen. The full process is on the How We Research page.
